House Build Week 41-44

Every day a little more of the drywall gets done. We actually have two crews working on it, one of them hanging it, the other doing the finishing. The second floor is entirely hung and finished!

loft office — this is an offshoot of the loft – a short hallway leads to a small office space for kids and then another hallway that leads to the exercise room and laundry room (behind where the camera is pointed).

the exercise room – the nook on the left is for shelving that will hold smaller workout equipment. The open space with the slanted roof is just large enough for two exercise machines.

The back wall of my laundry room (front side of the house) will have a deep window seat flanked floor-to-ceiling cabinetry

master bedroom fireplace – there will be built in seats on either side of it and a tall cabinet on the left.

master bathroom - tub with fireplace — this area of the master bathroom houses the tub and the shower (which I’m standing in to take the picture) there is a door on the right into the master closet. This window will also have a window seat underneath that connects over with the bathtub.

Bedroom 3 — hallway leading into bedroom 3 – the bathroom is through the angled door

They have everything hung on the first floor. The drywall is mostly done in the basement and about half-done of the attic, but no pictures of those spaces this time!

The first floor has been complete hung, but they’re just getting started with finishing it!

this is inside the mudroom. There will be a low wall sink under the window. The little hallway leads to the main entry and the door straight ahead opens into the office

front entry — Behind this beautiful piece of plywood is an even more beautiful front door. One day, the plywood will come off, and I will be able to show it to you. The doorway to the right is the office. There is a little nook to the left that will have a built in bench. There’s a hallway that leads right into the mudroom on the left as well.

our office is right off the front entry. There will be a window seat in the front and on the wall seen on the right, a double desk.

main hall — this is the hallway right inside the front entry. To the right you see the opening into the dining room. Straight ahead (slightly right) is the great room. Through the doorway straight ahead (slightly left) is the hall to the sunroom (also the powder room and a hall closet). You can see a peek of the stair tower on the left.

I love how the stair tower came together overall. We’re still working out a few kinks in this space, though! More to come on that!

the great room — The great room is about twenty-one feet high and features a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. The doors on either side both lead to the back covered deck.

this is the kitchen! A big island will sit in the center. To the right between the two narrow windows will be the stove. The triple window straight ahead is over the sink. The lower window to the left will have a window seat under it for lounging while meals are prepped.

butler's pantry — This is the hallway between the kitchen and the dining room. It leads into the mudroom. The nook pictured will be a butler’s pantry (it’s directly across from the dining room)

this is my Beauty and the Beast library. This is situated in a little nook between the stair tower and the powder bathroom. Eventually, there will be a sliding library ladder. There will be lots of books. And there will be me, in an armchair, never leaving.

back hallway to sunroom — this is the back hallway that leads into the sunroom. The powder room and a hall closet are also on the left in this hall.

sunroom with fireplace – there will be window seats on either side of it. There’s also a door out to the covered deck on the far right wall in here.

They’ve run out of drywall for now and had to go do another job, so it’ll get finished in a few weeks.

Drywall really helps make the house feel more finished. The rooms feel so different once they’re all closed in. It makes it easy to imagine how the finished house will look.

Beyond the drywall, we’ve also been really pinning down some design decisions regarding trim style and built-ins. So in other words, the fun stuff.
